 故事发生在二十世纪三十年代初期，莉莲（简·方达 Jane Fonda 饰）前往维也纳寻找自己曾经的好友茱莉亚（瓦妮莎·雷德格瑞夫 Vanessa Redgrave 饰），到达目的地之后，莉莲才知道，茱莉亚因为和法西斯支持者发生了激烈冲突而受伤住进了医院，之后不知所踪。在莉莲回归自己的生活之后，她意外的收到了茱莉亚的来信，在信中，茱莉亚请求莉莲帮助自己投运五万美元给反纳粹组织，尽管这一举动在当时意味着巨大的危险，但是莉莲还是答应了茱莉亚，最终，两个多年未见的好友在柏林重逢。然而，没过多久，莉莲便受到了茱莉亚的死讯，在悲痛之中，莉莲明白，自己还有未完成的任务。

　　该片基于罗尔德·达尔（《查理和巧克力工厂》原著作者）所著同名儿童小说，部分设定在挪威，部分设定在英国，讲述一个7岁小男孩和祖母住在一起，这个世界中存在着邪恶女巫，某次他偶遇女巫，被变成了老鼠，他必须尽力阻止她们破坏世界。
